Warm Minimal Apartment

A full renovation of a family apartment in taupe, cream and oiled oak — quiet rooms that hold morning light.

The clients came to us with a dark, compartmented 1990s apartment and a simple wish: to feel calm the moment they walked in. We opened the entry sightline through to the living room, wrapped the walls in a warm limewash the colour of unbleached linen, and grounded everything with wide oiled-oak flooring. Cabinetry is handleless and finished in a soft taupe so it recedes; brushed-brass hardware appears only where a hand actually lands. The palette holds to three warm neutrals so the family's books, ceramics and textiles become the colour in the room. Concealed warm-dim lighting lets the apartment shift from a bright working kitchen in the morning to a low, restful glow at night. The result is a home that reads as one continuous, breathing space rather than a series of rooms.
